The Supervisory Board has approved the CIECH Group Strategy for 2019 – 2021

Creation of a chemical holding company with EBITDA  generated from businesses other than soda in 2021 at a minimum level of 35%; the development will be based on increased efficiency, even better customer service and expansion in the area of specialised products - these are the main assumptions of the CIECH Group's strategy for 2019-2021. On 5 December 2018, the Supervisory Board of CIECH S.A. also appointed Dawid Jakubowicz to the office of the President of the Management Board; Mr Jakubowicz served as the acting President of the Management Board of the Company from September this year.

  • In 2021, the revenues of the CIECH Group would exceed PLN 4 billion.
  • Normalised EBITDA would exceed PLN 900 million in 2021.
  • By 2021, the share of businesses other than soda in the generated normalised EBITDA would be at least 35%.
  • The CIECH Group would be making a more intense use of innovations and effects of R&D in order to increase production efficiency and expand its product portfolio.
  • The strategy also foresees reduction of the carbon footprint) in the production of soda and adjustment of the energy mix used in the Group's plants to changing environmental protection conditions and trends prevailing in the market.

The soda business - currently the main area of CIECH's activity - is to utilise its competitive advantages thanks to increased production efficiency and improved quality of customer service. In accordance with the new strategy, the business of the CIECH Group will be gradually diversified - by 2021, at least 35% of normalised EBITDA is to come from non-soda businesses.

The Group has been intensively developing its salt business for several years. In recent years, new products have been introduced (including salt tablets for water treatment), and in April this year a decision was made to build a new plant in Germany that will start operating in 2020 and ultimately increase the Group's total production capacity to 1 million tons of dry salt annually. In the area of AGRO business, the programme of development of own products will be continued, as well as the synergy resulting from the acquisition of the Spanish supplier of plant protection products - Proplan. As a result, the offer of own crop protection chemicals and foreign sales will increase. By 2021, the share of sales outside Poland in the AGRO business is to increase to approx. 40 percent, from the current 20%.

Increased expenditure on innovations and R&D is to enable us to expand our portfolio to include more specialist products. An equally important objective of such activities is to increase production efficiency, among others, through the introduction of initiatives in the framework of the Industry 4.0. idea. It involves, inter alia, predictive maintenance solutions and other tools from the borderline area of IT and production management. The increase in efficiency will be affected by planned replacement and energy investments (CIECH owns two CHP plants in Poland, and one in Germany).

- We have prepared a strategy aimed at stable and precisely planned development of the CIECH Group, which will result in business diversification, strengthening of the leading position on the soda ash market, expansion in the salt area, and using the potential of the organic segment and intra-group synergies in the area of silicates. An important element of the strategy is the use of employees' potential through the implementation and improvement of the best HR practices, as well as the innovations and effects of the R&D Department's work. In terms of the operation of the strategy, we do not impose any restrictions on the choice of the Group's development model, thus confirming a flexible approach to our asset portfolio management. In 2021, CIECH is to be an effective and diversified chemical holding company - says Dawid Jakubowicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH S.A.

Moreover, on 5 December 2018, the Supervisory Board of CIECH S.A. appointed Mr Dawid Jakubowicz to the office of the President of the Management Board of CIECH S.A. Associated with CIECH S.A. from June 2018, as a Member of the Supervisory Board of the Company, and from September 2018, as the acting President of the Management Board, Dawid Jakubowicz is a valued expert with international operational experience in building the value of companies from various sectors of the economy.
