CIECH Cargo began transporting liquid fuels for Olavion customers

CIECH Cargo, a logistics company within the CIECH Group, organized the first transport of liquid fuels, commissioned by Olavion – a rail transportation company currently under acquisition by the Unimot Group. The load of diesel oil was transported from Gdynia to Zawadówka (in the Chełm district) and Stawian (near Gniezno). This action is an element of diversification of the carrier's order portfolio in connection with, among others, the expected decline in coal transport. Moreover, it is a part of the previously announced strategy of CIECH Cargo to expand the scope of transportation services provided to entities outside the CIECH Group.

The Inowrocław carrier's preparations for the implementation of the new type of transport lasted nearly two months. They included both servicing and surveying of fuel depots, carrying out test runs on new routes, and, crucially, training employees in the field of transporting hazardous materials.

- For us, this is an entry into a new market segment, as well as an opportunity to gain valuable experience and implement a service diversification plan. Ultimately, in this market area, we strive to operate up to dozens of transports per month, allocating at least three modern electric locomotives for this purpose. In the future, we aim to provide services for the transportation of high-risk commodities, such as gasoline and gas, which require the introduction of even more stringent requirements – says Andrzej Pawłowski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Cargo.

- We can already say that we are pleased with the established cooperation. CIECH Cargo's first well-executed liquid fuel shipments have shown us that this was a good decision. Of course, we are planning further long-term cooperation in this area, hoping that this will allow us to build a competitive advantage in the market – says Henryk Gruca, President of the Management Board of Olavion.

On January 9, 2023, The Unimot Group, a leader among independent fuel importers in Poland, signed a preliminary agreement for the acquisition of 100 percent shares owned by Olavion, a company involved in rail transportation services, as well as freight forwarding services domestically and abroad.

CIECH Cargo, headquartered in Inowrocław, employs approximately 260 people and provides railway services with 18 locomotives and 1550 freight cars. The enterprise offers domestic rail transport services in the scope of railcar rental, rail freight transport, operation and maintenance of sidings, as well as railcar repair. Its rolling stock includes modern electric locomotives, such as Bombardier E594 TRAXX, Bombardier E483 Traxx, Newag E6ACTa „Dragon 2”, and Pesa Gama.

CIECH Cargo performs approximately 90 percent of the services within the CIECH Group. Thus, the company is building the Group's competitive advantages in the area of logistics and transportation. To increase the scale of its operations and acquire more external orders in the upcoming years, CIECH Cargo intends to use its advantages — experienced staff, a modern fleet of electric locomotives, and full-service facilities for rolling stock maintenance.
