CIECH Group has joined the United Nations Global Compact!

CIECH Group has joined the United Nations Global Compact – the world's largest initiative bringing together businesses striving for sustainable development, established in 2000 by the UN Secretary General – Kofi Annan. Our involvement in the work of this leading platform for the development, implementation and popularisation of a sustainable corporate policy is yet another element of the ambitious CIECH Social Responsibility Policy. CIECH would like to contribute its extensive experience in activities related to climate protection to this prestigious initiative, in particular, in the area of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

- We believe that creating a sustainable, global economy that provides durable benefits to people, the environment and markets is possible. Accordingly, corporate social responsibility and sustainable development are elements of our business strategy. We wish to serve as an example of the best standards in the sustainable management of natural resources, care for nature, creating a friendly and engaging work environment, and cooperating with customers, business partners and local communities in an ethical manner – says Dawid Jakubowicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH S.A.

In its decision to join the UN Global Compact initiative, CIECH Group was not only driven by the desire to draw on the existing knowledge and experience of this international organisation in the area of sustainable development, but also – as one of the largest chemical groups in Central and Eastern Europe – it intends to contribute its extensive experience in climate protection activities to this prestigious platform, especially in the areas of power generation and minimising the environmental impact of production.

- The role of CIECH Group as a chemical company is invaluable in the discussion on the climate crisis and the need to protect the environment. As part of the United Nations Global Compact, businesses implement high standards arising from the climate process and other UN policies related to the sustainable development goals. I am happy that CIECH Group is becoming involved in these processes and, together with the UN Global Compact, will be taking measures to implement UN policies and global initiatives, in particular, in the area of environmental protection and counteracting the climate crisis – says Kamil Wyszkowski, Representative and Chairman of the Council of the Global Compact Network Poland.

Since 2019, CIECH Group has been implementing an ambitious green transformation plan, developed by a specially appointed team dedicated to climate measures. Its strategic goal is to reduce the level of CO2 emissions generated by the Group by more than one-third. This programme consists of six initiatives of different scale and implementation horizon.

As part of its involvement in the UN Global Compact initiative, CIECH will also actively participate in other programmes on the organisation's agenda, among others, those related to human rights, labour rights and counteracting corruption.

United Nations Global Compact is the largest global initiative that brings together businesses striving for sustainable development. Since its inauguration in 2000 by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, more than 13,500 members from 170 countries have joined the Initiative. Supported by company directors and CEOs, UN Global Compact, through a wide range of activities, cooperation with governments, public administration, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and scientific institutions, attempt to combine strategic business activities with 10 fundamental principles in the area human and employee rights, environmental protection and anti-corruption.
