CIECH Pianki obtained the prestigious ISCC Plus Certification, confirming the company's sustainable production approach

CIECH Pianki is a manufacturer of flexible PUR foams used in the production of furniture and mattresses. It is the first company in Poland, and possibly in Europe, to receive the prestigious ISCC Plus Certification (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). The certificate indicates that the company adheres to demanding environmental standards in the area of production, with a particular emphasis on reducing the usage of petroleum-based raw materials in favor of renewable and recycled components. ISCC Plus is an internationally recognized certification system for products’ sustainable development and may be granted after a meticulous audit.

CIECH Pianki purchases the main ingredients needed to produce PUR foams from third-party suppliers. These include toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and polyol, which are produced from petroleum-based raw materials. However, the latest technological solutions available on the market enable the production of these components with a majority of raw materials of natural origin or produced sustainably.

- Our company’s supplier of one of the main raw materials used for production claims that more than 50% of the material used at our plant in Bydgoszcz adheres to the principles of sustainable bio-circular development – its volume is calculated based on the balance of biomass used in the production of the components – explains Piotr Chojnacki, head of CIECH Pianki's Technology Department.

Producers of other raw materials used by CIECH Pianki are already implementing similar alternatives to petroleum-based raw materials. Their use will enable the Bydgoszcz-based company to further expand its range of sustainably produced goods. Moreover, the company plans to use recycled and plant-based raw materials for foam production.

CIECH Pianki is the first Polish manufacturer of polyurethane foams to obtain ISCC Plus certification, indicating a sustainable approach to production, primarily in terms of the raw materials used. In order to ensure compliance with the ISCC Plus certificate, a comprehensive and independent audit was conducted that covered all stages of the supply chain, the production process, as well as verification of procedures at CIECH's Bydgoszcz plant.

- This is the first step in building our new product line. Moreover, we are planning further activities that will utilize raw materials of natural origin and those obtained from recycling. In this way, we respond to the emerging trends of using raw materials with the highest percentage of eco-friendly components in the manufacturing process of mattresses and furniture. The ISCC Plus Certification is an important element in building a strong market advantage, as both our customers and end consumers attach more and more importance to sustainability values, especially in the areas of environmental protection and natural resources – says Michał Budzyński, President of the Management Board of Ciech Pianki.

CIECH Pianki produces and sells PUR polyurethane foams. It is one of the largest Polish manufacturers of this type of foam, supplying the largest furniture and mattress manufacturers in the country, as well as in Europe. The company also sells foams used in households (dishwashers or bath sponges). CIECH Pianki's headquarters and the manufacturing plant are located in Bydgoszcz. The firm employs 130 people and has a production capacity of approximately 30,000 tons of foams per year. Since 2020, CIECH Pianki has also been producing the highest-class certified and attested FFP2 and FFP3 protective masks.
