Representatives of the CIECH Group actively participated in the 15th European Economic Congress in Katowice, Poland

Three days of inspiring discussions, 170 thematic sessions, 11,000 in-person participants, 1,200 speakers, and 550 media representatives – the scale of the 15th European Economic Congress ("EEC") is reflected both in the statistics and in the rank of guests from around the world who attended the event, as well as in the multidimensionality of the topics discussed during debates and meetings. Among the invited speakers and experts from the world of politics, science, and business, five representatives from the CIECH Group attended the congress. During the sessions, they shared their experience and knowledge with other participants, presenting the perspective of a modern chemical concern in various areas of the economy and industrial transformation.

The program of the 15th European Economic Congress included discussions on key trends and tendencies influencing the economy and shaping its prospects in a changing geopolitical and macroeconomic environment. Five representatives from the CIECH Group participated in this year's edition: Dawid Jakubowicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH S.A., Kamil Majczak, Member of the Management Board of CIECH S.A., Wojciech Babski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Sarzyna and Head of AGRO Business Unit, Andrzej Pawłowski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Cargo, and Piotr Szlagowski-Budacz, Director of Strategy at CIECH S.A. During their presentations, they addressed the issues related to the participation of Central European companies in global competition, the economic resilience of Europe, ESG, the Green Deal in Polish agriculture, and supply chains in the new geopolitical reality.

During the first day of the congress, Dawid Jakubowicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH S.A., participated in the panel discussion titled "Central European Companies in Global Competition." The debate covered topics such as economic competitiveness and the developmental advantages of the Central European region. According to the CIECH representative, the last three years have been the most challenging period for businesses in many decades, marked by numerous uncertainties and challenges. "The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the energy commodities market, and disrupted supply chains have changed our perception of reality and the traditional, established patterns of strategic planning. Today, the foundation of strategic planning lies in the ability to quickly adapt to changes. Therefore, CIECH's new strategy is based on high operational flexibility, considering the exceptionally dynamic business environment and the challenges faced by industrial companies with global ambitions," stated Dawid Jakubowicz.

On the opening day of the congress, the session "Energy-intensive industries" was also held, attended by Piotr Szlagowski-Budacz, Strategy Director at CIECH S.A. "For energy-intensive companies, such as the CIECH Group, the energy transition driven by climate concerns and the need to meet ambitious ESG goals is of fundamental importance for the entire business activity. Renewable energy sources, biomass, thermal waste conversion, and heat recovery are already key areas of interest and specific development actions. In the future, our focus will include energy storage facilities, small modular nuclear reactors, and hydrogen technologies. To achieve our strategic goal of climate neutrality by 2040, we are already analyzing how and where we will obtain energy in 10-15 years", said Piotr Szlagowski-Budacz.

The first day of the event ended with the Green Initiatives Ranking 2023 Gala. It showcased the most interesting and effective investments aimed at reducing the impact of economic activities on the environment and climate. The Ranking is initiated by the WNP.PL portal and the CIECH Group, represented at the gala by Kamil Majczak, a Member of the Management Board of CIECH S.A. "Sustainable development and decarbonization are at the heart of business’ activities - as evidenced by the tremendous number of entries received for the ranking. It aims to inspire and demonstrate how various companies implement transformative initiatives", stated the CIECH representative during the award ceremony.

The second day of the congress was opened by two discussion panels attended by CIECH members. Andrzej Pawłowski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Cargo, participated in the morning session on "Seaports." During the meeting, participants engaged in discussions about new trade routes, changes in supply chains and import structures, as well as investments in seaports and their current condition. At the same time, Kamil Majczak, a Member of the Management Board of CIECH S.A., expressed his views in the panel on "Resilient Economy of Europe." During the discussion, it was emphasized that the diversity of the Polish economy is a strong asset, making us less vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic crisis and the war in Ukraine.

On the same day, Kamil Majczak also participated in the debate titled "ESG - Requirements and Strategies." "The significance and recognition of the term ESG have significantly increased in recent years. It represents an irreversible paradigm shift in conducting business activities. I am delighted that CIECH, by adopting its ambitious ESG strategy in 2021, has been at the forefront of industrial companies taking responsible approaches to environmental, social, and corporate governance issues", emphasized the Member of the Management Board of CIECH S.A.

In the session "Green Deal in Polish Agriculture", held on the final day of the event, participants had the opportunity to hear from Wojciech Babski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Sarzyna. A representative of the Agro CIECH business drew attention to legislative challenges that hinder the implementation of ambitious goals set by the European Green Deal in agriculture. According to Wojciech Babski, all the efforts in this regard are focused on reduction targets or numbers, while there is a lack of discussion on how to translate these objectives into practical actions. In his opinion, fundamental questions should be raised, such as whether there are alternative solutions available in the market for conventional plant protection products and what mechanisms exist for their implementation.
